Description:
This project was a rapid project with a one week deadline. The theme was ritual, how it was implemented was entirely up to me. So what I chose to do was to take it literally and have the player play as a necromancer who does his daily activities, and as he does them things start to happen that lead to an end. I took inspiration from necromancer type themes and the Paranormal type games where you go through a an area repeatedly with minor changes each time.
What did I do:
- I spent a lot of time programming this one and designing it.
Challenges:
Programming at this time was still fairly weak for me, and this game was made straight after find and click, I quite enjoyed the premise of it, but it is not a pretty game due to its basic shapes.
If I had more time and experience as I do now, I would go back and add some unique art and make it have more of a feeling, rather than relying solely on function.
The main trouble at the time, which seems trivial now, was trying to get the days repeating with the minor changes staying the same and not creating 10 scenes for it.
I spent approximately 2 days just figuring that out, and I managed to get it done, but the cost was no art time.
I will likely go back to this game in the future as I still see potential in it as a game.
For the target audience I was mostly aiming at quirky players, as this was the start of my developer learning I didn’t quite get to nail down the aesthetic that I was after, which was going to be a toon type shader and have some comedic imprints on it, not a scary game. I think that would have enabled a broader market appeal, and this game while made for desktop could have potentially been moved to mobile due to its simplistic nature and not being very resource intensive.
