Description:
This project was a rapid project with a one week deadline. This theme was the level must be completed in 7 seconds or less. At the time I was watching an old TV series, and drew some inspiration in the setting I wanted to do. Which was a black and white noir setting, with brief flashes of colour (blood, lightning).
What did I do:
- Designed the characters
- Implemented a basic narrative
- Really got to dig into VFX of unity for the lightning and started learning shaders.
Challenges:
This was my second game ever made so I wanted to keep it extremely short and limited in mechanics so I could focus on getting those mechanics right and trying my hand at other skills like shaders and shader graphs which I had never done before.
The main focus of these was the lightning, VFX, and particle effects for those shader graphs. This took me about a day to get them in and functioning within the scope I wanted.
The rest of the game being kept simple meant there was not much scripting to do overall, allowing me to try a unique aesthetic, styled into a 1930’s noir type setting.
Interestingly about this game while I kept it mostly black and white, there streaks of colour that do contrast through, such as the yellow lightning, and the red blood.
I really want to go try another game in this style as it has a particular aesthetic appeal to me.
In terms of the target audience this game was made more for the older crowd who grew up in the days of Mario and Donkey Kong, but with the added risk of time. And I think those who have seen older styled cartoons may also have a particular interest in this particular game.
